About the HBCU Movement

The Historically Black Colleges & Universities Movement is a groundbreaking professional basketball team that celebrates the talent, heritage, and excellence of athletes from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Launching its inaugural season in 2024, The Movement is the first professional basketball team in U.S. history exclusively featuring athletes who currently attend or have attended an HBCU. With the team based in Houston, Texas, the Movement is committed to providing a platform for players 18 years and older to showcase their skills, gain professional exposure, and participate in a vibrant, community-oriented sports environment.

To be the premier professional basketball team that champions the legacy of HBCUs, empowers their athletes, and creates transformative opportunities for the next generation of basketball stars.

Our mission is to:

Highlight the unique talents of HBCU athletes on a professional stage.

Foster community engagement and pride through the promotion of HBCU heritage.

Provide a sustainable, rewarding, and inclusive professional basketball experience for players, team owners, and fans alike.

Build a network of support from sponsors, investors, and HBCU alumni to elevate the teams impact on and off the court.

Athlete Empowerment: To provide financial and professional opportunities for HBCU athletes while celebrating their unique journeys.

Economic Development: To stimulate local economies in Houston, Texas, through games, events, and sponsorships.

Cultural Recognition: To showcase the rich culture and traditions of HBCUs through basketball and community outreach.

Sustainability: To build a financially viable team that supports its athletes and contributes to long-term growth for HBCU communities.
